Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum, I have been away for a while. Has anyone else noticed that Audi took the Pearl out of the new Daytona Gray Pearl Metallic. I have had 4 vehicles this color and noticed it right away on several models. I had a SQ8 on order in this color, since it was delayed I picked up a Mythos Black Metallic RSQ8. It would have not been a deal breaker if it came in but I would have been a little miffed. What was more surprising is no at the dealership noticed this change. It should now be called Daytona Gray Metallic but all the invoices still say Pearl.
There are multiple formulations of every color of automotive paint, and no two, even of the same color, will ever chemically be the same. Some will have greater levels of pearl than others. I just got 2 Daytona vehicles in this week, and compared to the preowned 2019 I also have, there is not any significant difference. I've had the color personally on multiple Audi's over the years. None were identical, and I ended up having to have touch up mixed for each one.
The difference is they have removed ALL the metallic Pearl colors no green no lavender micro fleck in the new color, hence it’s no longer Pearl but just Gray Metallic. I have owned 4 Daytona Pearl Gray cars and although they differed slightly they all still contained the Pearl effect. I will try to post a close up of both paints.
It is still a nice gray it’s just no longer Pearl Metallic. Pearl No Pearl
