FYI your SA is full of...etc.

angry.pengu - why do you say that? Not saying the auto S/S is or is not the problem, but I've seen nothing else by way of explantion.

The overwhelming evidence supporting the leading theory is condensation. I disable auto SS for every drive but it is unlikely the cause. The BSG works especially hard during the winter (DC DC step down for 1.5+ hours for each drive) and that heat coupled with the cold temps outside is what is shorting out the internal PCBs.

No one has a definitive root cause but this theory is the most plausible.

There have been reports of people religiously disabling the S/S function every time and still having the BSG die.

I've installed this piece of art and it works great. Start/Stop disabled by default.

Yeah but you have to take out the rear seat bench. It's...a thing.

Well, if that's correct, it might explain why we haven't had the issue yet. Our car goes to Tucson in the winter so has not seen much cold weather. In any event, we get the replacement part next week.

We religiously disabled auto s/s and we're in the south, so our car was never exposed to much cold weather, and the BSG still failed. Honestly, seems like a matter of (bad) luck as much as anything.

Theories about BSG failures are like elbows ie., everybody has one. I reckon the Audi engineers have identified the problem, but the customer will never know. It makes for good forum subject.

That theory sounds plausible to me. For what it's worth, I never disabled auto SS on my 2019 Q8. I was also fortunate not to have the BSG issue. I sold the car 3 months ago and just received the letter from Audi informing me that AOA will replace the starter-alternator.
