same thing happened to me today and I have the same year, wonder if they have to get the same part for me

Just an update since yesterday when my 2019 Q8 was towed into my Audi dealer for the Electrical System Malfunction. They performed the 40K service and sent me the tech's video in which he said that they need to replace the Starter Generator/Alternator and do a Electrical System Software Update to resolve the issue. They said they would contact me when those repairs are done.

I'm happy for you this issue appeared while the vehicle was still under the manufacturer's warranty. With my luck it would have happened the moment the warranty expired!

I have a 2019 Q8 and In Dec 2021 with 24k miles this happened to me. I brought it into my dealer and they said I need an alternator / generator. 2 Months later the parts arrived and I got my Q8 back. Just a heads up that if this happens to anyone, you will be waiting a month or two due to the current supply issues. I'm happy to report that my dealer was able to offer me a 2021 Q7 Prestige for the 2 months so I had no complaints. I've had my Q8 back for a month and everything is working great.

Good Luck

I took my 2019 Q8 in to the dealer for it's 50k service yesterday. Mentioned hearing about this issue to my service guy and he said that getting those parts would take a while but they would make sure I had a loaner if it was going to take any extended time. Since I bought a "CPO" vehicle, my warrantee is good through the 3rd week of December, 2023. I just hope it doesn't happen during a road trip...

Audi should really provide extended warranty free of charge for affected vehicles especially since this is happening to low and high mileage vehicles. Seems to be only 2019 models too....

Am about to pick up a 2019 Q8 with 10k miles on it. Doesn’t the hybrid portion of the warranty cover this issue? That goes to 100k miles or 96 months.

unfortunately no. This falls under the 48 month or 50k mile warranty. I had to get this done on my 19 Q8 prestige a month ago and I have 60k miles on mine. The alternator, hybrid battery, and regular battery costed me about $7k.

yet another reason to buy the extended warranty!

Final update. Picked up my Q8 today after one weekend short of a 3-week stay in the local Audi dealer shop. They replaced the Starter/Generator/Alternator and re-charged the drained 48 volt battery. Took so long as the parts had to be ordered and shipped in. Thank heavens this was all under warranty! But the Q8 is running well now. Glad to have it back!
