I think that sooner or later Audi will start to propose replacing the damaged alternator with a remanufactured one. BTW a remanufactured alternator is just as good as a new one.
And in some cases, the remanufactured parts are of better quality than the original...

At this point I'm going to just buy a brand new BSG for my car, and keep it as a spare. I'm done being scared of this thing.

Fun fact, through my wholesaler. This is for 4N0 903 028 P - Belt starter generator for the A8 and others. Take a look at these inventory levels for Audi of America/Canada!

I mentioned doing this a month ago. Only risk now is that they fix it properly and come up w a new part, or that the wait times diminish to nothing. If the goal is peace of mind, knowing you won't have to wait months for a part, it could be well worth it particularly since they cut the price in half.

Each alternator can be regenerated and this is a common practice in Europe. Maybe even the original manufacturer does it. As you have seen in the official site of Audi spare parts as ETKA, there are remanufactured BSGs with the letter "X" added.

What's an obscene price!!!! Here in Canada, List price is $1200 Canadian, and I can buy it through my wholesaler for $900. It's crazy what oemvwshop is asking!

770$ USD, retail, here in the U.S.:

I think it has to do with Audi USA doing the 7 year warranty extension, so they lower the price down to cost, since they will be buying it themselves. Was discussed about a month ago earlier in this thread.

And unlike in Canada, the dealers down here will ship it to you in Canada

Well, it's Eu price not only in oemvwshop. You are lucky in US or Canada, you pay much less for cars than we have to pay in EU. Well optioned RSQ8 is here above US$220k. The only consolation for us is thet we have bigger choice of options and the spare parts arrives a bit faster.
So, just buy your BSG for $900 Canadian

Thanks Thomas Reminding us Canadians how short of an end we get it here, hahaha!

Is the latest part 4N0 903 028 P? (ending in P)? Not sure if you know, thanks!
