Had same issue described above occur. Driving at low speed on surface street and alarms fired off. Electrical system malfunction call service. Ignored it and kept driving to Starbucks and back home. Next day start stop engine alarm, then air suspension alarm and finally a red alarm indicating to stop driving immediately. Drove it 1/4 mile back home and had it towed to dealer.
dealer got it and diagnosed quickly next morning as starter generator. Indicated 3500-4500 repair, but open ended timeline because no parts. Apparently last batch proven faulty so Audi commenced a QA effort on 10/26 worldwide. Sounds to me like pre-recall.
I have 54,000 miles, and have kept regular maintenance every 10k miles. Brought it in at 49k miles and told dealer get any know issues cared for now. Have had center differential fail, and also the radar/laser failed which threw off alignment and all the assisted driving features. On the latter they attempted to claim a road debris chipped it on the grill so it wasn’t covered. Escalated to service Director and GM and they handled it.
This round, I commend the dealer. They escalated a case/ticket with Audi and came back with 75% coverage since I’m only 4K miles out of warranty. All within 24 hours, and found me a Q7 loaner.
moral of the story, challenge authority and be the informed consumer. Do not accept no from staff members without the power or authority to say yes.
im debating whether or not to trade coming out of this, and if such whether or not another Q8. I’ve really loved the car, it’s an awesome vehicle.

I took my 2019 Q8 in to the dealer for it's 50k service yesterday. Mentioned hearing about this issue to my service guy and he said that getting those parts would take a while but they would make sure I had a loaner if it was going to take any extended time. Since I bought a "CPO" vehicle, my warrantee is good through the 3rd week of December, 2023. I just hope it doesn't happen during a road trip...
did you have any more issues after the fix was done?

This just happened to me yesterday in my 2019 Q8 with 63,000 miles on it shut down while I was driving. I had towed to naughty dealer waiting to hear the bad news and the cost on Monday. Thanks for everyone for posting now I know the price is going to be high but what should I do with the car now.

I have a Q7 loaner, and it seems I’m going to have it for awhile based on what I’m seeing and hearing here. Probably need to push them to give me a Q8 loaner, and they can keep it as long as they need.

I have a 2019 audi 8l that I bought cpo and had this issue pop during October 23rd. The dealer called me today and said alternator needs fixing but mentioned nothing about the generator.
did you have to push them to look beyond the alternator issue so they replaced the whole hybrid generator for you?

we opened an escalation for mine. They agreed to cover 75% given I just came out of warranty at 54k miles.
