Also I had a loaner for a week and did not see any issues. So i think this may be random.

With AS/S turned on and in D mode, there is a definite lag. In Sport mode or using the Tiptronic shifting (shifter or paddles), it's substantially reduced. I also put everything in Sport mode in the drive select menu under "Individual" which pretty much eliminates any lag for me anyway. So anyway, it's annoying and hopefully they eventually fix it, but it is manageable.

You are absolutely correct.
After reading the manual, I learned that the "sport mode" automatically turns off the start/stop function and the throttle response is instant from the engine.

I think it might be helpful to clarify the year of your cars. I've been keeping the auto start stop on in my 2020 in an attempt to cause lag (sounds weird, l know, but I'm testing it out), and I haven't had any issues.

I have under 100 miles on my 2020 and have kept it in Auto with S/S on. No long lags (yet), just similar slight hesitation as my 2016 MB GLC300 (with S/S on/comfort mode) and on some other S/S vehicles I have test driven. Otherwise...in the extremely short time I've owned it...I love the Q8! I'm not the speed racer I used to be - I rarely ever have the need to floor it. It is plenty quick for a "normal" driver. It has the quietest cabin of any of the 20+ cars I've owned. Only negative so far - I have the towing package and I can't get the "kick to open" feature to work.

UPDATE: I was able to generate a 1-2 sec lag by slowly rolling in Comfort or Auto so that S/S would stop the engine while rolling - then gently accelerating. Obviously I don't drive this way because it hasn't happened to me naturally. 90% of my driving is urban (top 15 city with dense rush hour traffic)/suburban. Turning off S/S solves the issue.

There’s a thread elsewhere on here about the kick-to-open. The trick is you need to “kick” a fair distance to the left of the hitch receiver (nearly halfway to the edge of the vehicle, beyond the “bump” in the bumper valance) then take a small step back. That should work. I couldn’t get it to work either until I tried this.

I took delivery of my Q8 50 TDI in September and had this issue since day one. Had a long conversation with my dealer in the UK yesterday and they have confirmed that Audi is aware of this and are re-writing some of the relevant firmware/software to correct this. Audi are looking at calendar week 16 for this in 2020. Apparently my dealer had 4 customer complain and we are now all linked to this issue to receive the update when it gets released.

hope this helps !

Thanks for the tip but I couldn't get that to work either.

Thanks for the heads up. Interesting because I would think the hitch blocking the sensor is the problem.
