Audi needs to admit blame and fix this
I realize some of the speculation earlier on is a few years old at this point, but replying since others have continued this thread recently.
This is 100% an Audi problem. It’s most likely due to the position of the coil or quality of the wireless charging pad. I have 2022 Q3 and I travel with a magsafe puck and qi charger for work. For kicks I plugged them in to a power bank while driving on a 5 hour road trip. Had CarPlay going with Google Maps and Spotify along with using my phone as a Hotspot for the kids tablets. My iPhone pro max stayed cool as if I was just using it at home. Both of my other wireless chargers had no impact on the phone temp while driving.
However, 30 minutes on the Audi wireless charging pad on my way to work and my phone is blazing hot. From what I can tell online Audi and BMW use a similar (or the same) triple coil pad. The benefit of a triple coil system is you aren’t suppose to worry about alignment to receive a full power charge. My guess is that either Audi or their supplier has a poor control function and it’s putting too much power into the misaligned coils instead of the one most aligned with the phone. Audi is far from the first company to have issues with this type of wireless charging system, but it’s unfortunately one of the features I was most excited about when I got this car.

I took delivery of my car in Feb 2023, was built Dec 2022. I came here to google the overheating phone to find this thread going since 2021. Why on earth if Audi knows it's a problem for most of us do they keep putting it in the car. They deleted the toll module for my car because of parts, why not also delete the phone box since it doesn't work. Frustrating.

It's a problem not only for Audi. The chargers in my wife's 2021 Lincoln Aviator and in my 2021 Ram TRX absolutely cook her iPhone and my Android. I no longer use the charger and now use a USB cable.

This is the problem of most cars with a wireless charger. They charge poorly and overheat phones. That's why Porsche used a special fan in the new Cayenne to cool the phone while charging.
