Would you suggest the dealership put window tint on your new Audi? I've got a SQ8 on the way and the SP said he would throw the window tinting in for free. Thoughts? Is this a basic tinting? Should I take it to a shop that does this and get a better tint/more heat resistant or would the Audi dealerships' be a solid product?

It depends on how much you care, right? Do you know a lot about tints? Do you have a specific percent that you always look for? Would you be displeased if the front tint didn't match the back windows?
I mean, if you don't care, go for it, it's free. If you do care, then go have it done at a reputable shop to your specifications (but: not free!).

I always ask them exactly what kind of tint they're putting on. What brand or series it is, and what percentage? Are there options?
My dealer wanted to charge $300 to just put generic tint on the front windows. It's only meant to match the rest of the privacy glass, no UV protection, etc.
I passed on that, of course. And I've also had dealers put on good quality tint. It varies.
So yeah, find out what they'd do. Otherwise, even free, if it's crap tint, you'll end up paying more to have it removed later.
But generally speaking, I'm not too worried about the quality of the installation itself. If they mess it up, they'll have to fix it.

Yea tell him you want ceramic tint on fronts, and clear ceramic over the rest of the windows, sunroof and windshield.
It's to keep heat out. I'm at a specialist shop for that, and they tell me windshield is 400 due to pita and lots of rework and warranty normally.

I was watching them install the tint at my Porsche dealership. I noticed that they actually take the the interior trim off to be able to do the whole window. This seems to eliminate the cut at the bottom of the window that my my regular installer makes. Overkill or the way it should be done?

Have any of you ever wondered that tinting the windshield reduces visibility at night, especially in bad weather conditions? This is a safety issue and there is a reason why such tinting is prohibited in many countries.

I do it because it is really hot in Atlanta in the Summer. The car comes with all except the driver and front passenger windows already tinted. The factory does not tint the front windows because of the variety of local laws. There is really nothing wrong with tinting the remaining windows as long as local ordinances are followed.
