I just purchased a fully decked and spec'd 2019 Q8 last week and came out of a 2017 540i M Sport with a beautiful (I'd argue perfect) B58 powerplant. It was just time in my mid life to get into something a little higher for entry/exit and extra boot room for bags of golf clubs. I was extremely disappointed with the low end Q throttle tip in and mid thrust as compared. I knew it would be different but not to that full extent. I could jump for the SQ8 but really didn't want to for the cost and the RS is just crazy for me. Let the record state I am not a fast driver having not had a speeding ticket in over 30 years. I decided to have the Q8 tuned yesterday on APR Stage 1 93 Octane from a local Indy. Extremely happy now and the powerband/driving around town is dramatically improved coming off the line and out of stop lights without a heavy right foot. The exhaust note doesn't change to much which I am personally okay with but the power is very noticeable different in the right way. It's kind of a quiet beast that may be between a X5 40i and X5 50. Closer to the X50 I suppose. If anyone is near Virginia or Maryland check out New Performance German as their shop. Good, patient, not pushy and informative guys. I also had them throw on 15MM and 10MM spacers. Looks like a well tailored suit in flush fitment and style. I am an engine/car guy and best money I have spent on many vehicles. Basically, I am LOVING it.
I added an APR tune to my Q8. Definitely an increase in HP / TQ as well as a slight increase in gas mileage. I tow with it from time to time and with the tune it gets around 14.5mpg towing a 25' open trailer with either the W12 or the RS7 on it... I'm impressed at its ability..
