2009 R8 "GEARBOX MALFUNCTION..OK TO DRIVE"
HELLO I JUST SIGNED UP TO THIS AND I NEED SERIOUS HELP
MY 09' R8 WAS IMPOUNDED FOR 2 DAYS AND WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE.. WHEN I TURN THE KEY I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE SOUNDS LIKE THE STARTER AS IF THE CAR WANTS TO TURN ON BUT CANT.. I TOWED IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAYS HE IS GONNA CHECK OUT THE STARTER TOMORROW
ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT THIS CAN BE??
CAR HAS 38K MILES BTW

Did you ever find out what the issue was? I have had the exact same issue as you have described today
(Except for being impounded)
Was just driving normally at about 20mph, i think in 2nd - then slowed to a T junction and tapped the downshift paddle, but did so at the exact same time as the car downshifted automatically to prevent stalling.
Error message comes up - i pull over to turn off and on, and engine wont start.
Couldnt roll the call either even with the dash showing N for neutral as it was still in gear
Had to get it dragged onto a flatbed on wheel skids (was waiting for 6 hours ) and its going to the main dealership tomorrow.
Its just as if the car thinks its one gear lower than it actually is (maybe due to being downshifted by two inputs at the same time)
Just hoping that its a simple reset to 'you are in this gear.. stop crying' and not a 'yep new gearbox required please' situation.
2008 4.2 R8 for reference - drove perfectly up to this point 60kmiles
