How can my 36k A4 have a full color MFA display and a 130k R8 have a red dot matrix one??

Here's my 2cents...
I don't know what Audi was thinking, but I do know that red displays will not ruin night vision. Ask any Astronomy Geek! To me, it doesn't matter that the display is all red. As long as it displays correct and intelligible information, red is fine. Of course it's a preference thing and I'm sure Audi had a good reason for making it all red (we all know they could have put the color display in there).

Correct. Red is superior for night vision. Color MFA would be FTL.
They had red on the B5 S4, because good night vision is important in fast cars. They moved to a color display for the B6, but that's not a big deal since B5 S4 > B7 S4 > B6 S4.
