Default I can follow that line of thinking

Since I have a background in off road racing and do a lot of machining, I fully understand the downfalls of the mag. (I do love machining it and playing with the chips...)

Your first response had me thinking it was the carbon part of the rim that was suspect to fatigue and I was thinking that maybe the issue was putting two dissimilar materials together in a fairly highly stressed component.

While it really bums me out I have to agree with what you say and I think I'll have to reconsider purchasing a set. 10K for two years just isn't in the cards for me. I can waste my money on better things.

Default That's good....

Most people don't quite understand. Magnesium is great for a racing/track application where wheels are discarded on a regular basis.

The CF Barrel is a work of art and has come a long way since the initial prototypes. Now if they would just match that up with a 7075/T6 Aluminium center, it would be an ideal street application and would probably end up being as light as claimed. Problem is, most buyers would not be as interested since it does not sound as exotic and costs just as much for the raw material.

Default The new Audi Exclusive order guide came out today

They have a Titanium finish R8 factory wheel. If you're waiting to hit the factory you could always add it.

Default Custom run of 7075 by Dymag? Hmmm - wonder if they would?

Since Dymag claims they'll do custom runs, we should get together and get them to do a few sets w/7075.

I'm in if they will.

Default I highly doubt it...

It would require complete re-tooling at a significant expense.

Default I agree with Liam. My friends run a GT3 RSR and had BBS race wheels with Mg centre cores...

They started to crack under stress and were replaced by a new BBS design using a new type of aluminium alloy.

Default Just beautiful Liam! Still not making 17s? I would really like a 17 X 9 one piece wheel with the...

Proper offset.

Oh and I want it to be very light too!

Default Some recent Dymag shots

<center><img src="http://oempl.us/images/Wheel_Dymag02.jpg"></center><p>
We have a set in stock for a customer and did a series of photos yesterday... More angles are available upon request.

Bummer that the centers don't last long. I will inquire if a more standardized center can be utilized.

These wheels are unbelievably light and absolutely gorgeous!

Default Ask Dymag about aluminum centers

and if they'll play nice, I'm in for a set. I just can't justify a 24 month rim - or less.

I've had my R8 6 weeks and it already has 5200 miles on it. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

I'm sure that I'd be over the life mileage long before the time frame.

Default Quality of Dymag's stuff is excellent, btw...

A buddy of mine has a Yamaha R7 (very limited, pretty much a race ready from the factory bike) that came with the Carbon/Mag rims and the quality of the components is absolutely top notch.

They're beautiful.

Damn, I want a set for the R8!!!

Arrrggghhh!!! (:
