Default R8 V10 vs used Murci

I realize that the cars are somewhat different, but with the present economy, I can get a 2004 Murci, with low miles for the same $ as the V10 is projected to cost. As I wait with my deposit placed, I can't help but ponder this question. Opinions?

Default I adore the Murci...in LP640 trim its an amazing drive.

But to get a Murci just to get a Murci, a 2004 at that, non LP640....I would take the V10 R8.

Lambo is by far and away my favorite OEM out there...but considering the 2010 alternative....the nod goes there.

In this economy, driving around in a Murci will only get you to the front of the line when they bring back the guillotine. The R8 on the other hand is just a tad more restrained and people don't give you the finger when you drive it. Just my opinion.

Default Personally...

I think buying as used Murci at a deep discount makes more sense than buying a new exotic that is going to depreciate. And allowing perceived image to steer how you are going to spend near to 200k is silly also.

I saw a Murci on the road for the first time last weekend. In the real world, it is an absolutely fantastic sight.

I would base the decision more on what you want. The V10 R8 may be the best all-around sports car ever made. The Murci is a completely different car, a true "exotic" built just for the sake of being exotic.

Default Re: Personally...

Sometimes I wish I still thought like that. While I have never chosen a car based on it's appeal to anyone but me, I have excluded some cars I would otherwise like to have. The negative image some cars project to many people takes enough of the fun away that it can be hard to enjoy the car. For the kind of money some of these cars cost, who needs that kind of distraction?

It also depends a bit on where you live. In a large city, a Lambo sticks out a little less than in a medium sized city like mine.

Default I live in a small town, so I stick out with an RS4 as a daily.

At the point of an R8, it really doesn't matter anymore it is so far out there. I wouldn't drive either to work because I don't think that is appropriate. I do most of my genuine driving early in the morning on the weekends, so most people never see the car. I have a 355, and the average person sees Ferrari and assumes it is a 200k car. The fact that I could sell the RS4 easier and possibly for more money right now doesn't matter a smidge.

If I bought a Murci or an R8, the difference here would be minimal, and I think that is true most places. Both cars are obviously exotic. It's not like the difference between say a V8 R8 and a CLK63 black series - similar money, but completely different impact on the road as most would have no idea the Black is anything special.

Spending 175k on a car is nuts unless you are buying a car that you absolutely love. I have to think of making compromises at that level.
