I think the 997 got a big jump start on the r8,if you read the original post on the m5 messageboard (the guys who organizd the race) you'd see the r8 lost ground initially but then the gap was a constant. The 997 driver had also turned all his aircon off and stripped a few things out.
You can also see videos of the r8 beating a 997 c2s w/powerkit ,but more pertinent try and follow an r8 in any porsche round a track and you'll be struggling...top gear twice spun 911s trying to keep up with the r8.
I went from a 997 turbo into my r8 and yes it is noticably slower, but it is so much more fun to drive its not true.
The r8 has moved the game on,even the 430 I drove the other day was not as much fun.

The video hardly represents the real life story between these two cars. I track alot, and a stock R8 is really much faster thru the twisties and turns than the 911 C2S or even the full race 911 GTRS Cup car,.. and the R8 can even exit faster! But on the longer straights, the 911's are faster.
So if I were to choose between these two cars, the Audi R8 and the Porsche 911 C2S, I would definitely choose the car that can out corner any 911 made. .. Hmmmm.. I guess I DID make this choice. LOL!![Big Grin](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I am waiting hungrily for the MTM supercharger. 562 HP!!

Bodhii; I agre with you, the Audi R8 dynamics are fantastic and it is not in the high speed acceleration it shines and Iudnerstand why: 4WD for example.
But it is abeutifull mid engined true sportscar.

Technically you could say the 9972S hade "bolt ons" sins it had the optional €12 000 Factory Powerrkit that bumps the HP to 381 HP.

I assume the C2S is lighter, not having an AWD system and the HP/kg ratio is better than the R8's. Might be plausible. It is also plausible that the C2S driver left a bit earlier. I can't tell from the video.
Either way, I don't think that who's faster is what matters with these cars. If it's speed on a track you want, get an Atom or a Caterham and end the story there. I think it's about enjoying it and making an experience out of every journey. I can't imagine someone not being thrilled each time they take their R8 out for a spin, even if it's the first time or the hundredth time.
