2 ohm vs 4 ohm sub

I'm going to be installing a single JL audio 10" sub off the mono (4 ohm) channel of a 5 channel MTX amp. The amp can handle a 2 ohm load on this channel and of course puts out more power this way. I need to decide if I should get the dual voice coil 2ohm (for a 4 ohm load) or 4ohm (for a 2 ohm load) sub. Seems like a 2 ohm load is better, but is there any downside? (I'm pretty sure the sub could handle the extra power under the 2 ohm load)

That's not an issue. If you are 100% positive the amp is rated 2 ohms on the sub channel, then go for a 2ohm load based sub I'd say.

I think the W6 only comes in 6-ohm DVC, so you must be talking about the W3. The W3 series can handle up to 600w rms safely as long as you adjust the gains accordingly. I don't know of a 5-channel amp that puts out more than 600w rms off of the sub channel at 2-ohms, so you should be fine. Like HDClown said, just make sure the amp can handle a 2-ohm load, which it probably should. Other than that, you're money!
