I sent a message to Soundgate support, but have not heard back yet, so I thought I'd ask here for help. I have a 2001 A6 Avant with a Symphony I, no changer, but prewiring for the factory changer. I also have a Soundgate KNVW1 and a Soundgate VWCBLA connected to a Kenwood KDC-CPS81 changer. I followed the instructions but the changer does not work. I get this message "CD 1 LOAD" displayed. Has anybody had this problem or know what else I could try?

While holding preset #4 down, turn on the radio. This will force the radio to search for the changer. If that does not work, disconnect power from the battery for 10 mins or so. FYI - I have the same model/year car as you.

Is having a 10 disc vs. 12 disc changer THAT important to you? Why not just install the Phatbox and have a 500 CD changer? See my sig for my pbox install. The pbox can be had for $160 from clairparts.com. Once you go phat...you never go back!!

As for the kenwood changer, are you hoping to get CD text? Won't happen with the Audi head units. Sorry.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that when I get home. I'm using this setup because I'll pulled the kenwood from my old car. I happened to find the KNVW1 on ebay for $5 bucks. Just thought I would try it out before spending money on an OEM changer, phatbox or hardwiring my ipod.
