2001 Symphony HU, BOSE features On/Off? How?

The manual says that "BOSE" will be displayed on my HU when I first turn it On (This is true). It says that the BOSE amplifier controls the output, under this condition.
I'm using a PPI amp, now. Is there a way to toggle the "BOSE" features On/Off so that I can turn my HU into a regular old Panasonic instead of a BOSE?
If I can, what difference does it make?

You need to recode the radio to do it, so either find someone locally with a laptop and VAG-COM or go to the dealer (though I'm not sure they'll do it for you). You'll need to change the 4th digit in the code from a 1 to a Zero to take the head unit out of Bose mode (so if it's 00117 you'd change it to 00107). This will turn off the BOSE display, but more importantly it will also turn off the Bose-specific EQ settings that built into the headunit.
