I am having a problem with my '97 A6/(Audi Delta/Bose System). The battery went dead and I had to reenter the radio code. I know I did it correctly, but it would not unlock. After two tries the radio goes into a mode that will not accept any code for approx. an hour. My radio never returned from this mode.
I took it to the dealer and they advised me to disconnect the battery overnight and it would clear the SAFE code. Then push FM1/2 amd DX at the same time (Once only). The screen to re-enter the code should have come up. Alas, it did not. I still have the SAFE code in the window with ll in the lower right.

I returned to the dealer and was told the only option was to replace the radio.

I cannot believe there is not a way to clear the system.

Can anyone confirm this or have any ideas how to bring this radio back from the dead.
