Default A6 "Muddy base"static problem. Im a newbie, but is it the speaker or the sub, amp etc?? READ>

I just got my a6 and found the lower driverside speaker very irritating at low volume. It is like very "muddy" and full of interfearance at low volume. It drives me nuts and the only remedy is to turn it way up.

Now im a newbie when it comes to stereo systems, but is it just a bad speaker or anything related to the amp, sub what have you.

Note my system is stock with the symphony radio. A6 2000

Default The fronts run off the HU, so it can only be wiring related if the problem goes away with volume

Check the connections behind the HU, the speaker loom can go a bit floppy as it only has half the connections of a normal ISO plug. Not sure on the A6 but later Audi's have a connector on the door pillar as well, which is a pig to get to and can get gunked up causing cutting out at low volumes.

Default If Bose, all speakers are powered by the amp, if non-Bose, Front are HU

I blew two of my Bose speakers with music just loud enough to hear at 65mph with the windows down. A blown speaker can give a "static" like sound when the bass hits. Does the sound you describe go away at higher volume, or just become somewhat hidden as the music is now louder? If the sound is still present and does not seem to change volume, chances are a bad speaker.
