Default A6 w/bose system, I want to take it out

But can I just take out the HU and use the stock Bose speakers and chan ge the speakers later? Have any of you guys did this? Also, what aftermarket speakers would you gusy recommend? I was told that the doors are not very (1.75 inches deep) Is this true? What can I do? Any suggestions? One more thing, is there anywhere on the net where I can find take down instructions for the car (doors, seats, ideal places to g through the firewall etc.)?

Thanx for all the help

Default Yes you can, the Bose speakers are driven by a separate amp

So you'll need an adapter to connect your RCA's to the Audi pre-out loom that feeds the amp. Crutchfield can supply this, but make sure you get the Bose RCA one, not the speaker output version.
Haven't got instructions on the A6, but have worked on A4's & A3's and they are quite similar. To get power through the bulkhead, you go through the ECU on the A4, which takes you straight in behind the dash, very simple. The A3 is a bit trickier, as you have to punch a hole though a thick rubber grommet behind the airbox.
All speakers are accessed by taking the door cards off, or for the rear deck, sliding out the rear deck cover. Don't try prising off the grills in door or deck speakers. Door trim tends to be held on via 2 screws hidden behind a plastic cuff on the grab handle. You then lift the whole panel straight up and out (easier with the window down).

Default Re: Yes you can, the Bose speakers are driven by a separate amp

what aftermarket speakers dp you suggest. Also do I need any "special" tools specifically for audi to get the doors off, and the Bose HU out? Are there any strange clips that break off super easily on the doors? Had that problem on my Jeep. Just trying to figure out the degree of difficulty it will be to strip the car.

Default You need special radio removal tools for the headunit.

There's a tech article for removing the A4's doors, I'm not sure about the A6.

As far as aftermarket speakers, you need to specify a price range and what qualities you're looking for.

Default Basically anything will be better than what you've got

but you can spend anything between $100 and $1000 on just the front components.
