Default About to install new H/U - a little help needed

I've decided to suck it up and ditch the oem Concert HU. I am currently using a Blau Adaptor to run line levels to my Amps. I am convinced that the low 1.7V of the Concert line level outputs are causing the excessive engine whine I get. Anyway, I got a Clarion HX-D10 (no internal amps, just line level 4.0V RCAs). Before I rip out the stock concert, I was hoping that someone with more experience might be able to make this simple for me by explaining which connections I need to make.

Based on the HX-D10 wiring schematics, I will need to connect:
-Memory back-up lead (unswitched power)
-Bus power lead (unswitched power)
-Power lead (switched accessory)
-Illumination lead
-Remote Amp turn-on lead
-Ground
-Antenna
-Power antenna lead

I am fine with the Ground and Remote Amp turn-on. My antenna is in my rear windshield - so no power required. So, from the Concert schematics, is it obvious where I can tap switched and unswitched power and Illumination?

Lastly, Crutchfield supplied me with a 'DIN-12 12 Volt & RIF Mixer for FUBA OEM Antenna. What am I supposed to do with this???

The Concert pinout is in the picture.

Thanks in Advance.

Chris

Default You do need an antenna adapter. Scroll down a bit to see pics of the right one.

It'll have an extra wire that gets connected to the juice somewhere.

You should just buy a wiring harness for ease of connectivity. The aftermarket harness will have all the wires color-coded for ease of location. Plus, you won't have to cut the factory harness up (my dumb-*** installer didn't listen when I told him to use one).

Default Thx. I'm pretty sure I have the right antenna adaptor. I think the harness is the Metra 70-1784

Based on further searches of the archives. Thanks. Chris

Default Right rear and Left rear?

Currently, I am trying to put in a SONY aftermarket HU in my ride. I just got a wiring harness that made it much simpler (plug and play basically). Its Metra, but i dont have the part number with me ATM. After searching local stereo shops and online for a while, theres no such thing as an Audi harness (so dont even ask), this one specifys for VW only (but it works fine).

Everything hooked up pretty good, the (first two) Black and Brown blocks (of factory wires) just snapped in and i just needed to wire up the ends together from the other HU's harness, then i ran into my problem.

The factory wired "brown block" is only the front speakers (obviously shown from the diagram above)and the rear speakers are somewhere else.

Now i figured (myself) that those two rears speaker lines are those connections shown on your picture/diagram that you specify going out to power amp. What power amp? I have a 99 concert HU. Will me connecting those lines to my Sony HU RR and RL destroy things?

Anyhow, I just need to find a way to connect them to my HU wiring, being they dont go nowhere on the Metra harness. And i dont want to cut up my wires. I think i'm going to have to detach them from that block (i think its green) and insert em into the extra holes in the brown block with the front speakers. Because thats where the wires of the Sony HU harness match up.

And oyeah, you will need a antenna adapter. cheers.

Default Thanks. I picked up the Metra 10-1784 yesterday (m)

I am no expert here - but I belive that all Concert systems (Bose and non-bose) utilize an external amplifier for the rear deck speakers. The amp is located under the next to one of the speakers. This essentially means that your Concert headunit amplifier is only being used for the front speakers and it is using line-outs (non-amplified) for the rears.

If your headunit came with line-out RCAs, you may be able to splice them right into the lead for the rear speakers. If not, you would have to somehow bybass the rear amp which I hear is a PITA and involves dealing with various ohms settings (1ohm vs. 2 ohm configurations). This is why most people decide to change their speakers and add a decent amplifier as an initial upgrade.

I've attached another link to a more detailed pinout diagram.

Remember, I am not very experienced in this stuff - so please get a more expert opinion before you proceed. How's that for a disclaimer!?!?
