Aftermarket Headunit Question

Aftermarket Headunit Question
Well Everyone,
I've started looking for an aftermarket headunit on my 99.5 Audi A4. It's just the single Din concert radio, NON-bose, so I believe I can just replace the headunit right now correct? Since they aren't bose and the speakers don't have their own amplifiers. So I can just buy another headunit switch it with stock, and hopefully it'll still work with the stock speakers. Anyways here's my question: Do any of you know any good CD/MP3 combo players? Any that would match the red interior lighting of the A4 fairly well? Any brands better than other, or any that you guys consider the best brand for aftermarket Headunits? Sony? Aiwa? Kenwood? Etc...If you have any pics please post them as well, so I can get a kind of feel for how it will appear. Thanks everyone in advance for all your time and help...Thanks!

Re: Aftermarket Headunit Question
I'm thinking about replacing my Concert I with this Kenwood this year:

I'm not a fan of the blue plastic, but the unit is very functional (high pass/low pass crossovers, etc.).

some info
this was all posted in your question on the a4 forum, but I'll state it anyway here for those who don't check.
Stock system DOES have an amp on one of the rear speakers, only for the rear speaks. Fronts are powered off the deck. I just bought a Clarion 835MP, matches perfectly and plays mp3's.
Also remember when you replace your deck to make sure the k line is NOT hooked up and that you will also need an antenna adapter.
That is all.

K-Wire?
One more aftermarket Headunit question guys, I remember when I was wanting a Jetta I would be at vwvortex alot, and I read an issue about when Jetta owners upgrade to an aftermarket headunit they needed to cut or not hook the k-wire to the new radio. I read that one owner who had it accidently hooked up, when he took his car for service the VAG burned up inside and broke or something like that. Do the 99.5 concert radio's have anything like that? Is ther eany K-wire or anything I have to worry about? Thanks

Yeah... once you pull the head unit out, you'll see a wiring harness...
If you buy the Scosche wiring harness, you should see a light blue wire (if I remember correctly) which is the K-line. You want to either splice it, or not connect it when you're hooking up your harness to your new H.U.
The antenna adapter you'll need for the radio can be bought pretty much at any place that sells car audio. It's a Metra part, and I think it is Part # 40VW10.
If you want to power your existing car speakers with you new H.U., you will have to run new wiring to your rear speakers, but the fronts will work fine as is.

Oh yeah... if you've never installed a radio before, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself.
The process is super easy once you've done one, but get somebody who knows what they're doing to help you out if you're going to do it.
Check 1 or 2 posts down for the Concert radio removal tool. Otherwise, buy the right harnesses, and get the correct dash spacer kit so you won't having a friggen hole in your dash.

Only thing I'd add is to take pictures of your cut K-wire and put them in your owners manual . . .
if you're still in your warranty period. That'll ease the dealer's mind about running diagnostics on your car.
