Aftermarket HU has poor radio reception - Power antenna adapter IS installed!

I've been happily using my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD the last couple weeks since figuring out how to install it in line with the Bose amp and speakers.
Everything works fine except the radio - in which I get fair (but NOT good) reception in FM, and absolutely horrible reception in AM.
Strangely, FM seems to work best when the car is sitting still or on local roads, and worse on the highway - but that could be my imagination.
I used the proper powered adapter when I installed it, with the power lead connected to the same ignition switched source as the radio.
Now I'm going to install the XM unit in the near future, at which point I'm also planning to change the radio's ground to a direct chassis as opposed to the wiring harness - any chance this will help?
Anything else I can do? It's not a dealbreaker for the radio, and I'll care a lot less once I get XM working again, but it still would be nice to have everything working right.

from the speakers, have you tried a non-amplified antenna, if not try switching it out and it might solve your issue, also it is always possible that your amplified antenna was bad from the get go.

I did not try a non-amplified antenna, but I also never had trouble with the current antenna when I was using the stock head unit.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/102/antenna_amplifer.jpg"></center><p>perhaps your problem is with the amp not getting power or a lead that is not correct.

I've tried different antenna adapters to supply power to the antenna amp but nothing has worked. I always suspected maybe the window tint or process of the tint install may have done something to affect the radio reception.

I have a little blue wire that's hooked to switched 12V power. I think without that I wouldn't get ANY reception.
