Default Another Symphony Radio Question....Could the dealer be wrong??

I posted a question a couple of days ago about getting a used Symphony radio out of a car that had BOSE sound, and putting it in my A4 that does not have BOSE. It is replacing the original Symphony radio (which did not work, as the car came from auction). Anyway, my front channel does not have any sound, but the back does. I tested all the speakers, and they're OK. The radio works fine otherwise. So I asked the dealer if they could re-code it to non-BOSE. They said that a radio set up for BOSE will not need to be re-coded to work on a non-BOSE setup; it would only need to be re-coded if I was going the other way around (ie. non-BOSE radio to a BOSE setup).

Is the dealer just being lazy, or is this true?

Thanks again.

Default yes...the dealer is wrong....

in a none-bose environment, JUST your front speakers are powered by the internal amp in your Sym I/II etc. The front speakers are considered passive....in this configuration. You also have a none-bose amp in your trunk that powers your rear speakers and subwoofer in the trunk.

in a bose environment, all of your speakers are powered by a the bose amp....and there aren't any passive speakers (for the most part - some might have a passive speaker for the telephone in the b-pillar...it depends).

You can't get any audio out of the front speakers because they are not connected to your rear amp. FACT.

In VAG:
module 56:
00207 (this should be your code)

Print this out....and have your dealer respond. <ul><li><a href="http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/programming.html">http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/programming.html</a</li></ul>

Default just did this...

the radio will have a 5 dig. code in VAG. The 4th digit is a 1 if coded as Bose, 0 if non-Bose. Change it to a 0 and voila, front speakers work.
