I have an Elemetal Design sub in my car. They make a 10" (e10A.22) that will handle 1000W RMS! Not max, RMS and it has 20.3mm Xmax one way! It sells for $270. http://www.edesignaudio.com They have huge excursion and power handling, not to mention the sound quality. I am very happy with mine.
IDQs are made by Image Dynamics, they're not on my list, but others have said they're good subs. They didn't fit my requirements and application thouhg. They need small enclosures (just like the Elemental Design subs) however they only handle about 250W RMS and their Xmax is not as great as EDs. Again they are good subs, but not for my application. http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/
Brahmas are made by Adire Audio, and they are the ultimate power handlers (too bad they don;t make a dual 4 ohm 10", I would have considered it otherwise). Their subs will handle 1600 RMS!!!! They're not cheap, be prepared to pay $350 a pop for a 10". It has 28mm one way linear throw (Xmax) which is insane! http://www.adireaudio.com/
At any rate, these are my top choices if anything.
I have an e10O in a 0.55 cu ft sealed fiberglass box in my Avant running off of 500W RMS from a Memphis 500D at 2 ohms (it's a 4 ohm per coil DVC sub). I love it and I don't think I need any more bass that this. Big things can come in small package......

Who said anything about my ears? :-)
They're bleeding and I can't hear **** :-D.
If I hear the name Kicker somehome the stereotypical Civic driver with thumping *** distorted bass is what comes to my mind.
Having said that, Kicker makes decent stuff.....

All I have in the Type44q are Kicker speakers (Impulses), mid-basses (old Comps), and sub (newer-old Comp). I used to have an old round 12" Solobaric in the CQ too. With the Solo in the CQ, turned up past normal volume and doors/windows shut you could only hear it w/in a 10' radius. No rattles, no buzzing. It would make anything you set on the factory spoiler bounce around and fall off. I also could not use 2 of the 3 mirrors in the car. Pulled it because it way over powered that car's interior.
Never would I have put my cars' stereos in the same class as a Civic who has their gain turned up too high, bass up all the way, poor box construction, and car that will rattle if you tap it with your finger tips.
Solo's are very nice, way more than what most people actually need. Small boxes for the size (and $$) class of sub too. Key is getting all the levels set correctly, and making a good box.
