Default Anybody ever mounted a small amp under the front seat of a B5 A4/S4?

I hit a little snag in my recent project to upgrade my head unit. I have an Alpine IVA-W200 that I'm planning to install but in order for it to work with my system, I need to install a DSP to handle the sound processing (EQ, active crossovers, etc) part of the system. I was planning to install an Alpine PXA-H701 processor under my rear seat but the processor seems to be a little bigger than I thought and now I don't think it'll fit there without some modifications to my previous install. I was thinking of putting it under the passengers side front seat but just a quick look under the seat makes me think it probably won't fit there either. The processor is about the size of a small amp (10-1/4"L x 6-1/4"W x 1-1/2"H).

Anybody install anything under the front seats without problems? Does it interfere with the full movement of the seat?

Default At 1.5" tall it might JUST make it under the seat travel...but...

....if you have any short people in the car (or tall people in the back) im sure you'll see it from the rear...

...which, would irritate the HELL outta me...lol

Thought about the rear armrest?

How about up under the dash, passenger side, behind glovebox?

Default Never thought about the armrest. I have to take a closer look at that.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea if I can pull it off. The only thing that would worry me is the amount of cables that would need to be routed into that area. I would need power, ground, and remote plus the Ai-net cable, a toslink cable, and 3 sets of interconnects.

Default I thought about that but I only took a quick look there and it was covered up.

I think I'll actually have to remove the glove box to see what kind of room is back there.

Default Maybe not directly behind the glove box, but you might have better luck on the...

...passenger side bolster "floor" just behind the glove box. However, it's not supported very well at all and might interfere w/ the footlight.

Should be two hex screws to drop the glovebox/underdash panel. Pretty quick.

Default Depending on whether you chose to mount it on the seat, or the rest itself...

...i would imagine the seat would be a better idea since you wont be folding it up and down all the time, but who really uses that armrest anyway!

theres already a "storage" compartment in there (which does a GREAT job at holding a stack of magazines)...a good start for space...
