The main reason for not upgrading my stereo doesn't hold water anymore. It seems that they're are a lot more Head Units featuring Red Illumination than there was 1 year ago. I have my Eye on the Sony Xplod, Mini Disc Recorder Head Unit. I hope that the Red illumination matches my A4.

True, but still most of them are orange or amber........
The only three units that I have seen in true red are the Blau Nevada, Kenwood eXcelon, and Sony Xplod. Of the three, the Sony looks the most orange, however it should be a close enough match. It just seems to have a softer glow than the others.
Personally I am partial to the Kenwood.... I like the esthetics of the face better... and it has the features I want. But that's just my opinion.
Also, I've heard it mentioned that some guys here managed to take an Alpine deck and paint the LED's red to match the Audi. Of course this would probably void the warranty.
As far as Sony Xplod goes.. make sure if you can, to spend the extra $50 bucks and get an extended warranty. Sony is like the Chrysler of electronics.... they have nice designs, but long term reliability is suspect. I even did it with my Kenwood.... now I have a 4-year warranty.
Enjoy!

I went the opposite direction...
I was looking for a perfect match at first but then decided that if
it's not going to match up perfectly, then what the heck...go all the
way off. :-)
I wound up getting the CDX-650 (Sony ES CD head unit with the
Active Black Panel). When the panel is up, the LCD screen is almost
all light blue / white with some red accents. It's a total standout.
People that saw it thinks it looks cool even without the match.
Now the great part is when the face comes down and reveals the
inside. The interior LCD and CD guide light is intense blue (cool!)
but all the function buttons are backlit in red (a very soft red just
like Siberian described but VERY close to the Audi red nonetheless).
It makes for one hell of a contrast. I got oohs and aaahss from my
friends that saw it. It looks very cool at night.
One thing that I will try for the hell of it is to get some deep red
cellophane (sp) and put it up against the Active Black Panel to see
if it'll make the LCDs look red. It'll be just a small experiment to see
what happens. I'll try to take a night shot and post it if possible.

AudiWorld Super User
Alex... did you get a new headunit ???
That doesn't sound anything like the headunit I saw in your A4. If, however, it is the same one, I'll agree that it looks great in the dash.

Audio Bug!!! I figure I can move this into another car as well...
I've decided to move the MD head into the X. It's really different
than the one before. It REALLY stands out now...hehe
I'll try to make the next tri-state meeting. I promise not to bring
the X with me. :-)
Plus my Mom has pretty much taken the X as her main ride. I'm
off to a used car sale Thursday to hopefully find a "cheap" ride
for my mom to use at the park and ride so I can get the X back.
Is everything set with your A4 yet?? I want to meet up sometime
to hear it.
TTYL.

If they make an MD ES head unit like mine I'll go nuts!
I pulled out my MD head and will put it in my Xterra soon. I really
like the MD head unit / CD changer combo but I really liked the
newer Sony ES CD head unit with the ABP feature. Oh well...
