Default Anyone familiar with the Rockford 800a2 Power Amp (Circa 1999)

Just acquired this amp from a buddy of mine along with a 360.6 and am going to use these two to replace my Kicker KX700.5.

My question is - I could have sworn that this amp was good bridged into a 2 ohm load, and have found a few people saying that on google. But when you goto the documentation it says bridged can only go into a 4 ohm load.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Default I believe only the monoblock amps were rated for 2 ohm mono loads.

But I've used several amps with 2 ohm loads that were only rated to handle 4 ohm loads and none of them have ever gone into protection mode. As long as you give the amp adequate ventilation and don't drive it into distortion, it should work fine.

Default the documentationis correct

that era rockford power series amp was not 1 ohm stable. using it that way will eventually destroy the amp. rockford knows about their amps

Because of the way an amp is bridged, 2 ohms mono is the equivalent of a 1 ohm stereo load.

Default If you are going to try it, I would keep a close eye on the temperature of the amp.

If it gets so hot that you can't put your hand on it for a few seconds, don't continue to use it that way beacuse it will die after repeated use in those conditions.
