Default Anyone have any experience with MTX amplifiers? I might buy one...

I know their subwoofers are pretty good. Mine is MTX too. I just want to get rid of my crappy SPL Dynamics amp (finnish but made in Korea or something) and swap it with another more reputable and of a higher quality one. I'm thinking of the MTX amps so as to match the colors and design of the sub and I even might build a new box for both the amp and the sub. FYI, I don't have any rear speakers, just the fronts which are the Focal K2 Power 165KP (2x80W RMS). The sub is an MTX Thunder 4500 12" (225W RMS). I was considering two 4ch. (which can hopefully be bridged and work as 3ch.) MTX amps, which are the following :

MTX Thunder 1004 (4x90W RMS @ 4 Ohm)

MTX MXA 6004 (4x75W RMS @ 4 Ohm)

What's the forum's opinion? Are these amps any worth? Does anyone have any personal experience or know anything more specific?

Also, do you think that this kind of power is reasonable for my setup or excessive? Would I be better off with some "smaller" amp?

Thanks for any input

Default I hear they are a little overrated on power, but they seem to be of decent quality....

I know a couple guys who are quite happy with them.

Default I play at 4 ohms and I'm trying to find something similar to this ->

<img src="http://www.spldynamics.fi/pictures/tc-755-pk.jpg">

which is my current amp. 4x75 + 1x150 RMS, all @ 4 ohms. So I'm looking for an amp that can be as powerful but of a higher sound quality. And I know that this one is powerful enough but lacks the quality and clarity of others I've heard.

Default i had one of their bottom of the line amps...

i had an RT202 that worked fine for about 8 months before it blew. i dunno if it blew because of something i did (ie accidentally shorting out wires) or if it was just a crappy amp that i was expecting too much out of, but either way...it did crap out on me. so i personally would be wary of buying another mtx amp, but then again, if you get a higher end one, you'll probably be fine.

Default Yeah, I saw those Hifonics. Their prices are too low and that made me suspicious. R they any good?

I'll look into Eclipse ones too, thanks.

Default I decided not to buy anything crap ever again, so I'm trying to be cautious...

This means that it's better to avoid them I guess.

Default i agree....for the money, i think you can probably get a decent JBL amp

and my experience with their amps has been very good (i had a P180-2 that was excellent)
