the back of the radios for both cars have the identical plugs.. porsche one is becker though..
is it plug and play swap?

yes, those ISO connectors behind the becker unit will look the same...but that doesn't mean the pin locations for ign power, ground etc will be the same.

Also, I doubt the A4 HU will be the same size...so some custom modifications will need to be done.

Also, the 996 will probably be setup with an external amp (similar to our Bose setups), so you'd need to VAG the A4 HU (prior to installation) to send the appropriate line-level outputs to the 996 amp....for starters.

see my posts in www.navplus.us...as I list all the part# for these connectors, pins/wires etc for behind the Audi HU's. You can probably build a custom Plug/Play adaptor to make this work.

if you're looking to upgrade a 996 radio, you can definitely do much better than an A4 system. if you're looking to just replace the 996 radio with something you've got lying around, i'd really say don't bother - odds are you can probably swing a decent aftermarket head unit.
