Default Why ported?

With a decent amp you should be able to get good output and deep extension with a 25L (~.88 cubic foot) sealed enclosure. I haven't put one in my car yet, but I have one in my living room and love it. As soon as I can get off my **** to build a box I am going to put one in my car.

Default You might also check out Dayton

Carried by Parts Express. Eminence makes both the Shiva and the Dayton woofers. In particular take a look at the Dayton 12" DVC and the Titanic MkII and MkIII.<ul><li><a href="http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&amp;SO=2&amp;&amp;DID=7&a mp;CATID=49&amp;ObjectGroup_ID=484&amp;manuid=47"> Dayton 12</a></li></ul>

Default Re: Why ported?

At this moment I have old school 2x10" RF sub (sealed)running in my boot. I'm not really happy with the sound, I guess cause the bass doesn't really come into the cabin (and lucky can't hear from outside). I'm thinking this is cause by all bass was absorb by the deadning stuff (you know how do european car compare to asian car)
So I'm thinking if I make ported (SPL)box, I will get more bass get in to the cabin. What do you think guys

Default Well, a ported enclosure will be large...

..they also generally aren't easy to align. Sealed enclosures are easy to build becuase they tolerate design errors much better than ported designs. I personally believe that a single Shiva will outsweep your prior subs giving you more bass output regardless of what enclosure you use.

Default Had a shiva at one point, still have it...

Good sub. I put it in about a 1.2 cubic ft box i made to fit the angle of the backseat. Stuffed the box, great sub all and all... I moved on to a jl 12w3 (definitly better) and then onto a 10w7, but for the price the shiva was great. Watch for sun exposure on it though, my surround was begining to get dry/crack a little.
good luck
