Default Auxilary input question..

This is actually a question concerning a system I recently installed on my boat, I installed a Clarion XMD3 head unit because it had auxilary inputs and I could run my satellite TV receiver's audio thru the stereo and be able to play the music stations on the stereo. The problem is this, everything works fine, CD, Tuner but when the sat. receiver is on and I plug in the RCA cables to it leading to the head unit, the sound overpowers whatever is playing on the head unit and I get the satellite TV output without even selecting aux. on the head unit.

Is this because the signal coming from the receiver an amplified signal and then it is being amplified again by the head units amp? How do I step that signal down? Thanks for your help.
