Avoid Alpine subs,

Re: Avoid Alpine subs,
You are more likely to blow a speaker by providing it with too little power then too much to a certain point. If an amp doesn't have enough power for the speaker it is not able to control the diaphram properly.

Why they died: Too little power and an owner that wants too much volume.
For years I have seen and known people who buy great speakers and pathetically underpowered amps for them. For instance, years ago a customer wanted 3 Rockford Power 10" subs installed his Maxima. This is fine, but he refused to buy just two and a powerful amp, even though I explained why he would be better off. He insisted on buying a Punch 100 to run those poor subs. When it was done, he was mad as hell because another customer had a car with two cheap JBL 10's run with about 600 clean watts that was louder than his expensive setup. The point: Don't buy good subs and underpower them. You want more and more volume so you crank up your volume and bass **** first. Then you hit every gain in the signal chain, cranking them up as far as they will go. This creates incredible distortion and signal clipping, which translates to a nasty signal coming from your amp. This trash output ends up blowing your subs. Alpine is not known as a reputable, usually cutting edge manufacturer because they make garbage.
