A/B Switch for XM radio install?

When I purchase my 1998 A4 2.8Q (hopefully), I'd like to add XM satellite capability along with upgraded amps and speakers, while keeping the stock head unit. I also DO NOT want to use the little cassette adapter or RF modulator.
It seems like it would be fairly straight-forward to wire an A/B switch to select between the XM output and the stock head. Now, I'm not sure if the '98 head unit (for instance) has pre-outs. It sounds like the signal to the rear speaker amp is effectively a pre-out, depending on whether it's the Bose system or not. Anybody know for sure?
Also, I think the home model of the Sony receiver has a standard pre-out. Can this goofy looking box be mounted aesthetically in the center console, or perhaps hidden in the armrest or glove compartment?
Thanks,
Andy
p.s. What I really need is an MD head unit with CD changer control and XM ready, but I don't think that's out yet either. Rats!

If so then you can purchase a Blitzsafe adapter that will let you use the prewired CD-Changer interface cable in your trunk as a line in to your radio, giving you full control over the volume from your headunit.
You'll just have to figure out how to mount the controls for the radio in the cockpit so you can use them yourself.
