b5, what gives a flatter resoponse, bose coding or non bose?

Default Bose mode gives flat response, but I haven't tested a B5 to know what causes it...
We've had Bose B5s in that we've upgraded, and they had flat response, but I never tested to see if it was the wire or the VAG COM setting which made it flat.

by the wire, you mean the blau adapter?

No, I mean the Bose pin. Many if not all Bose systems ground the GALA pin - this forces OP to flat

Default Check the wiring diagrams for several A4,A6,A3 w/ and w/o Bose - the GALA pin is grounded on them.
I believe that once the radios started working on the CAN bus, a dedicated GALA VSS pin was redundant. (The CAN bus I would expect to carry VSS data).
