Default 4 ohm is the standard impedence for car audio

why would that be a bad idea?

decent 2 channel amp bridged to push one 4 ohm sub should work fine.

i was just thinking in means of D class amps, 4 ohm is usually low power.

Default depends on the amp you plan to use. thats fine, but...

if you get a good class D amp that is 2ohm stable in bridged(mono) mode, then consider get in a dual voice coil or 2ohm sub to take advantage of higher power output by your amp.

2 4ohm DVC sub wired parellel would yield 2ohms.
