I have a 2006 A6 w/ Bose. I was looking to swap out the front speakers and add an amp. Can anyone tell me what size the speakers are in the front doors?
I am guessing 6.5's.

Sorry for the late reply. I usually don't browse the car audio forum. I have a 2006 A6 with bose. The front door speakers are a 1" tweeter, a 3" mid and a 5.75" subwoofer in a plastic ported enclosure. This sub is dual voice coil 4ohm. There is no direct replacement for this woofer however you can fit a 5.25" woofer with a trim ring.
The rear doors are 2 way with 1" tweeter and 6.5" inch woofer.
All the speakers are 4ohm except for the subs which are DVC 4ohm wired in parallel which makes them 2ohm. They can be powered by any conventional amp without a problem.
The bose subwoofer is pretty beefy and works perfectly in the ported enclosure. I actually replaced my front setup with a 2way JBL GTO component set and did not like it. So I put my stock woofers back.
The weak link in the C6 system is the Bose amp. Since the input to the amp is fiber optic you will have to tap the signals after the amp. In my car I used a Rockford Fosgate 3sixty.2 with Audison amps. I have a custom subwoofer enclosure for sub duties. I use the stock subwoofers in the front doors for midbass.
There are 8 outputs on the Bose amp. Two pairs to the front doors for sub and mid/tweeter. One pair to the rear doors for mid/tweeter. One for the center channel in the dashboard and one for the two surround speakers on the rear deck.
The 3sixty.2 has 6 inputs. Two front, two rear, one center, one sub. I used the mid/tweeter inputs from the front and rear doors, and the sub input. I left the center channel and the rear surround connected to the stock amp.
With this setup you would need 6 channels of amplification for the doors and a separate sub amp. I can assure you that the stock speakers will sound great with better amplification.

Recoding the bose so the eq is flat and using a high quality preamp is the best way to integrate, not to mention the most cost effective, BUT THE BEST OPTION if you want it PERRRRFECT with no cutting is to use the interface in the pic. Not cheap, but it will keep all the MOST system content and the dealers diagnostics happy. If bought today 559.00 EUR = 877.888 USD. It keeps the oem amp for MMI duties and gives you a 4 channel full range rca output. A skilled installer can replicate this without a problem for a fraction of the cost....optical is optical...nothing too special here.

The MOST components need to stay...why get rif of the MMI system anyway? The user interface is wonderful. Add an amp or two or ten and some speakers and be done.
