Hello,
I have a 2003 Allroad that I'd like to create a custom audio setup in. My questions start around the CAN bus. Is this something that I can easily tap in to for driving the stereo region of the HUD and capturing the MFSW buttons? Am I even correct in assuming that these functions are on the CAN bus?

I was hoping I could put something like this microcontroller on the bus to work this functionality in place of my symphony II deck?

I would like to use this as a "frontend" to switch/control the various components (Sat, PC, Phone...)
Even better would be if something like this already existed, but I have not been able to find anything like this yet.

Does anyone know of a link out there to explain more details of the CAN bus specific to Audi and the Allroad?

Displaying text on the top two lines of the DIS is easy, capturing the MFSW buttons is easy as well. I've done that with a PC and CAN USB adapter and you can get the required messages right of the Infotainment CAN. Using the OEM SAT receiver or phone module is much more complex and requires decyphering a two way communication on the CAN bus. If you are used to that is doable, otherwise it might be really time consuming. There is nothing documented in public about the Audi Infotianment CAN, except that it runs at 100kbps. Some message IDs are posted on various forums but those are the easy ones.
