i think it depends on the level of amplification.

Default It's not a good idea

If you want RCA signal then all Audi head unit already have pre-outs, just not on an RCA connection. You either buy the adapter (in the above thread) or tap into the pre-outs feeding the rear amp.
Line level converters are hideous things that give you a distorted sound, elctrical noise and engine interference. They're the lazy option which should only be used for a sub amp if the HU has no pre-outs
