I need to upgrade my amp because the small kenwood five channel one i have now is not takng advantage of my speakers. the system starts distorting much above 1/2-2/3 max volume and sounds like ***

I have infinity kappa perfect 5.25 component system upfront and alpine type R 6 inch coax in the rear. I'm using an eclipse hu.

I was looking at JL amps but it seems like lots of people think they are over priced. I dont know enough about amps to know what to look for but i know I want plenty of power and high quality sound.
what companies should i look at? who makes the best sounding amp for around 200-500??

I also need a sub amp and a new, more powerful sub. I was looking at the jl 10w6 but I've never heard it. any alternatives for about 200 bucks?

is it reasonable to think i can get a great sounding setup for under a grand?

Zapco competition series is a system that uses balanced signals. I have a bunch of stuff that I might part with, if you're interested. I have two Z220-CL amps (one for each front channel) and a Z600-CL for the subs (900 amps at 1 ohm). I think those are the model numbers. I have the signal processor and two EQs for them. This is real stuff .. not toys like you find in the local audio shop or circuit city.
