Default Dan Harman, are you still going for the 5.25" when you get your 2nd pod?

If you wanna keep the 6", just ask your installer to use a little bit more of your side map pockets and move the speakers a litl bit towards the back. Also, a litl tilt of the speaker buffle will also help.

for my setup, i got rid of the whole map pocket and make it as my speaker enclosure. hopefully, it's gonna give me better midbass than using the doors as the enclosure. I will get myself some of the small cargo net thing and mount it besides the center console to put my stuff there.

Since you are doing the 2nd pod again, you might want to consider this.

Default Here's what I'm doing...

The pods that are going on the car will still use the 6" Infinity's. It is a completely different design though, one that will look almost stock and keep full functionality of the map pocket.

My installer is going to start off with an MB Quart Q-series flush mount grille. It will be died to Opal Grey along w/ all of the vinyl. Since it is a flush mount, it will look more like a stock setup (to a non A4 enthusiast). The pods will be ultra compact and the driver will be as deep in the door as possible. The glovebox will open and the pods will hardly protrude any farther than the stock ones.

As for sealing up the back of the speaker or modifying the door: The speakers are designed as a free-air driver so sealing them up doesn't seem to make any sense. I will probably spray the door myself at a later date if I find I'm loosing too much midbass or hearing to much road noise. Does anyone have any suggestions... vBlock? Has it been done before and resulted in better sound?<p>Dan

Default I was thinking of doing just that for my 6-1/2" diamonds...

since I never use the map pockets anyway... (imho, map pockets are about as useless as **** on a bull) I was going to make my speaker pods just as Dan mentioned, but close off the map pocket as well as the back of the speaker... then vent a hole thru the speaker pod to the map pocket and use that as an enclosure. I did buy Cascade V-Vlok for the doors as well... I am using sheets for the metal door skin, and spray for the inside surface of the door panel.

As for how I'm going to incorporate the new pods into the door, I'm still not sure. I was thinking of re-wrapping the whole door in new vinyl, but I'm not sure how good a job I will be able to do since I've never done vinyl B4. I had another idea... I was going to make a form fit fixture out of fiberglass that actually fits over the surface of the existing door panel but doesn't protrude too much so as not to let the glove box open. Then mount the speaker ring to that. Then I can wrap the new fixture in vinyl and fit it over the original door panel, gluing it in place from behind. Once in place, I can cut a hole thru the grill of the original door panel to allow the speaker to drop in from the front.
