I bought the Dension Icelink GW400 for my 2003 A4 with non-bose in dash 6 disk changer (Symphony II I guess). I took it to an audio installer here in northern VA and they got it plugged in and my ipod would recognize the icelink, but we could not get the head unit to switch to the input. Hitting the CD button twice had no effect.
I went over to the Audi service center near by to ask if the radio had to be programmed to enable the ipod adapter but they didn't have much info to provide. They suggested that if you have an in dash 6 disk changer it might not work, even the one Audi sells under their name.
Has anyone gotten this to work and if so how did you do it?
Thanks for any clues,

Well, enfig rules. I called and he helped me figure out that the installer didn't even attach the ground wire. It was unclear why the ipod was able to see the icelink at all, but it probably explains why it failed to work. I'm going to order the removal tools and just do it myself.

And the headunit needs to be reprogrammed to 'think' it has an external CD changer or a Phatbox option installed. You need a VAGCOM. The audio installer wouldn't have had one, or didn't know, and the Audi dealer, like usual, is full of crap and doesn't want to get involved in anything they don't sell. Phatbox was an option for your car, therefore an Icelink will work.
The way the icelink works, it tricks the headunit into thinking that it is the external CD changer. If you are hitting the CD changer button with an internal changer, it isn't looking for an external unit on the aux input.
Search on the VAGCOM forum and you'll probably find instructions on how to do this. Buy a Vagcom from Rosstech directly and you'll be happy. This is one of those essential tools. Or, search on the vagcom locator link and see who has one near you.
