Dimensions of JL Stealthbox?

I am thinking of installing a JL Stealthbox in my '01 A4 1.8T (along with replacing all the speakers and adding an external amp) but I'm concerned about how much space it will take up. I've seen a picture of it on JL's web site and I understand that it mounts to the underside of the rear deck, but how much does it hang down? It looks like the drivers are encased on the sides of the enclosure -- how far do they stick into the trunk space? Does anyone have any close up pictures? I'd do a search, but searching is down.

I just got off the phone with JL Audio's tech support. They confirmed that the Stealthbox will not fit in an '00 or '01 A4. The guy I spoke with stated that the trunk area is so sealed off (to reduce road noise) that a normal sub box won't optimal (it'd be better than nothing, but not ideal). He said some people with the cold weather package are building a box to go just behind the rear seats, sealed off to the trunk area, so all the sound pressure is directed through the ski hole. I don't want something that permanent and certainly don't want something that will prevent me from folding down the rear seats for extra storage. So...I guess I'm headed toward a standard sub box solution.
What have other '00 or '01 owners done for sub boxes? Suggestions?

I know the Stealthbox will fit in a 2000 (and most likely 2001 since I do not believe there were any changes in the trunk area. There is some trimming of the trunk lining material on the upper left side wall the of the trunk, and the box will slide right in place and bolts to factory holes in the rear deck.
As to the other question, no, simply placing a box in the trunk is not the optimal solution. Bass will carry into the cabin, however. I have a 10" box in the trunk that is removable. There is a peak around 60Hz, that gives is a bit of boominess. I need to find a way to work that out, but I think it's better than nothing. I have not removed the ski pass through.

RKA...thanks for the info on the Stealthbox in a 2000/2001 A4. That's very encouraging! Does anyone have any close up pictures of a stealthbox in a 2000/2001 trunk? I'd like to see how it fits.

i have an 01. a high end dealer told me about the stealthbox. it sounded great until i just read your post. i don't have the cold weather pkg, so i am leaning toward removing rear speakers and just getting a nice concealed 10" sub. i have an 8" and get ok bass from the rear. my main is concern is up front and to add some punch there. probably going with mb q's and a nice amp to power the front and the sub.
also, does anyone receommend ebay to buy the hardware and have a dealer install? i'm worried the installer/dealer will resent my not buying the equipment from them and not doing the greatest installation job only to later blame it on the product i didn't buy from them when things go wrong.
any feedback is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
1.8TQMS, PES GIAC Chip
PES BPV & Exhaust on the way!
