Default Disappointing midrange

I have reposted this message and maybe the response improves. Need help with this one!

Just installed new speakers and amp in my Audi A4, but the midrange is not very good. The speakers are Focal 130K installed with MB Quart adapters. Rockford 600a4 amp and crossover set at 70 Hz. I suspect that there is a "sound leak" between front and back of the speaker, or that these adapters just can't hold the speaker firmly enough.

Any hints? Will it improve the midbass if I use some kind of dampening material around the adapter, ex. around the "neck" between the speaker and the door? And maybe some sort of gasket between the speaker and the adapter?

Thanks!

Default Check the phase of the original drivers......

I changed all of the drivers in my S4 (BOSE) and learned that the original mr drivers in the front door are reverse phase (a positive voltage applied to the plus terminal relative to the minus terminal causes the cone to mode towards the magnet - this is reverse phase). To accomodate this you need to wire plus to minus and minus to plus on the new driver (assuming it is "normal" phase).

I gotta tell you I just had Focal 165k put in my TT and I have no midrange.Sounds like we could be using the wrong or poorly designed speakers.

Default Re: Check the phase of the original drivers......

I think I may have solved my problem. Yet to be tested, but I belive I'm onto something. When I installed the speakers I put the door lining (the one to keep water away) back on. Because the Focals are bigger than the original speakers I had to pull it tight over the back of the speakers to make it fit. That way the speaker had absolutely no enclosure to play in and I believe that caused the missing midbass. I'm now going to cut a hole in the lining, just keeping a "roof" over the speaker to keep it from getting wet. This way the speaker will be able to use the door as an enclosure.
