what are distribution blocks, and when would you need them.
and is it better to have a band pass box's ports pointed toward the rear? my box happens to point up.

Take 1 larger guage wire and split it into multiple smaller guage wires. Essentially used when you have more than 1 device that needs power.
So you could run a single 0/1 or 4ga from your battery into a distro block that splits off into 4 8ga power wires to run to various amps/x-overs/eq/etc.
You could also run multiple powers wires from the battery but that's rather silly in most cases.
If you have to power avery low yield device like a fan or x-over, it's also common practice to just tap into the power connector at your amp and run a smaller guage wire to the fan or x-over. I do this to run the 1 fan that cools my 1 amp.
