I just finished fitting my door panels back on with my home-built door adapters.
With hind-sight, I would have done a couple of things differently.
I would've found some MB Quart adapters somewhere in the world, and waited for them to come in...
Or, if I had to get custom built ones, I would've just paid an installer to do them for me.
I also would've made it easier to get to my crossovers. Currently they're in the doors. I should have put them in the kick panels. Now my MB Quart tweeters are stuck at -3db ... they should be -6db. These things are really really bright for where Audi has them placed.
If you can help it, never take off the front door panels. They're too much freakin' hassle to get back on. I just spent four hours trying to get two door panels back on the doors. I finally made it.
If I were to do this for someone else's car, I'd charge them about $800 easy for the adapters and the installation.
All in all, I've spent about three full weekends on this audio system. I'm very proud of it, and proud of the fact that I did a professional job. I think it's deserving of the car it's in (My main goal). Materials only cost me about $15, yet I'm confident that my installation is worth about 100 times that.
This $3000 audio system really sounds fantastic.
Without you guys, I would've truly screwed something up (permanent like) in my car. I figured out the best way to route power cable, get the door panels off, remove the rear deck, take the dash apart, and tons more.
Thanks for everything!

I used 3/8" fiberboard. Made a template out of cardboard....trace and cut.
Well it was almost that easy, the first design looked awesome, but I couldn't get the door panel back on..not very useful.
Second design worked great. Took me about 4 hours from start to final product. I made 2 sets today in about an hour.
I'll try to scan the adapter and post it, if anyone is interested.

I guess it comes easier the more you do it. As for mounting the x-overs... yes.. bad idea to mount them in the door for two reasons.... water does get in there and if your xovers are not sealed, they could get wet and then you got problems. Also, as you said.. now you have a hard time making adjustments. I mounted my xovers under the back seat... so I can easily flip up the seat to adjust the xovers.
