Default Downsides to completely removing the rear speakers?

I have a B5 S4, and I posted yesterday about how the OEM speakers are buzzing, like something is loose in there. Since I already have a sub woofer in the trunk this theoretically provides all the bass I need right? Arent those stock rear speakers pretty much there to add a bit of bass upon leaving the factory, which i have already replaced?

I am thinking of removing the speakers entirely and not replacing them. When I unhooked them both, the system sounds ok, but the sub compression within the trunk continues the vibration sound.

Any downsides to just not replacing them and leaving truck "ports"???

I know nothing about car audio!

Default Most systems sound better with just fronts & sub, really only there for rear passengers

The sub could also be causing the rear speakers to distort, so better off with them removed. I found that the rear deck cover is prone to vibrate against the metal of the rear shelf, so stuck a duster in between and problem solved.

thanks for confirming. One downside i did think of is possibly more road noise from the trunk area

I doubt two 6.5" paper cones provided much in the way of sound proofing

Default I'd just disconnect them and leave them in.

Buy some sound deadener like Dynamat, eDead, B-Quiet, etc. and put it in your trunk. That'll help with the road noise also.

Default Yeah agreed. If anything...just cut out some dyna mat and stick it over the holes...

....but in reality...the $4 cost of that...isnt worth it IMO.

heh heh.

Default Matt, I have the same car, same radio and the same problem with vibration out of the rear

speakers. I've had the rear speakers replaced 4 -5 times over the last 6 years and the problem is still there. I'm at the end of my rope and walked into a car audio shop just this afternoon. I'm leaning towards a single 10" speaker and disconnecting the POS rear speakers once and for all.

Sorry about your problem but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. Other B5S4 guys think I'm crazy because their speakers are fine.
