Default I'd say neither.

I don't think it has a significant effect on road noise since most of the noise comes from the floor pan, firewall and wheel wells. As far as sound quality goes, it won't change anything as far a tonal balance but you might get a little more SPL out of your subs by reducing the amount of resonances you get on the trunk panels.

Trunk just might be a skip then... using factory sound and just trying to cut road noise.

Default Then, you want to add some damping sheets to the under carpet area, and the inside of...

of the doors, against the skin sheet metal.
Instead of using the typical consumer audio grade panel damping, consider obtaining some marine/industrial grade damping sheets. The damping sheets used on the inside of larger aluminum boat hulls, specifically. This type of damping sheet, consists of a very compliant plastic main layer, that is not "rubbery" for damping vibration, covered by a thick layer of aluminum foil, the opposite side has adhesive applied. Costly stuff, but very effective. And, you don't need to cover the entire area for excellent performance, less than 50 percent of the total area, evenly distributed, is enough. The product specs and fitting instructions describe how to figure the minimum panel area for proper installation.

Default Here's a sound deadening forum

Below is a link to a forum where you may ask your question. You're guaranteed to receive some knowledgeable replies.

Though the following forum is attached to a sound deadening material vendor, by no means does it pretend that other vendors' products don't exist. Some members have lots of experience in sound deadening cars. It's worth browsing, in any case:

http://www.secondskinaudio.com/forums/</a

Ask a aluminum boat construction shop for the supplier in your area.
