Default Front Speaker Fitment w/ Quart Adapters

Help...I finally got ahold of the MB Quart 5.25inch front speaker adapters, and they fit on my door panel just fine, but after attaching a set of components (Infinity reference 505cs) the door panels don't want to go back on. Yes, the new speakers protrude farther into the door cavity than the stock ones, but it seems like that would be true for any aftermarket speakers considering the extra depth of the adapters. How have you gotten around this? I'm thinking of getting some more compact neodymium 5.25 JBLs, hoping that they'll fit in. I'd like to avoid cutting door metal, especially since it seems like there is no extraneous metal to cut. (I want my window to be able to come down). Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm very interested in this as I'm looking to install the same (505cs in the front doors of my A4).

I've looked up the specs for the dimensions, and according to figures given (see below), if the 50.2cs fit ok (as DRoss states), surely so should the 505cs'....

505cs
Mounting Depth: Woofer: 2-1/4" (58mm)
Cut-out Diameter: Woofer: 4-5/8" (118mm)

50.2cs
Mounting Depth, Drop-in: 2-3/8" (61mm)
Cutout Diameter: 4-13/16" (123mm)

Brian, could it be the MBQ Adaptors?
Here (in the UK) the part number is SAK-1104 for the adaptors (branded "Autoleads", not MBQ), are you using the same?

DRoss, are you using the same adaptor in your setup??

Or could it be an alteration in the '99.5 A4? (I've got a '97 A4)

Thanks In Advance,
AS

Well I tried again with some other speakers, such as the 50.2cs and polk dx3055cs. What I found: these speakers, with depths in the neighborhood of 2-1/4 inches, will (barely) fit in the doors of my 99.5 with the Quart adapters. I know nothing about the Autolead adapters.

HOWEVER: the new Infinity Reference 505cs will not fit correctly without some sort of modification to the adapter itself, because of their new "Plus One" woofers. This design pushes the rubber surround to the very edge of the speaker assembly, which is then in contact with the inside of the adapter when you screw it down. If you actually hooked these up like this, I expect that it would sound awful becaue the speaker would not have room to move properly. The other two models that I mentioned above fit together with the adapter just fine, but it is quite a squeeze to put the door panel back on the door.
