Has anyone ever successfully removed the amplifier from the left rear speaker?

the amp is held down by one screw. I de-amped it to see how it would sound with a external amp. It sounded much better being powered by 50w RMS. =)
however, the fact that the two speaker drivers are different and i wanted to move my soundstage lower and to the front, i replaced them anyway.

How did you do it? Did you just single out the line level leads, cut them from the harness, run them to your external amp, then run the amp-out leads to the speakers?

i took the rear speakers off. The rear right speaker has the built in amp. i unscrewed the amp off and cut the speaker wire from the amp. And then powered the speakers with my PPIPC amp. sounded much better than stock since stock was like 20w peak and i was putting 50w RMS into them.
my system is different now but that was a good intermediate step.

Can you explain how you wired the new amp (what wire goes where)? Someone on this thread mentioned that they were able to do this by just using the wires going into the connector to the drivers side rear speaker.
